There’s great chance you’ve noticed my lack of posting recently. While it’s true there is a lot of hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, busyness is not the reason for my absence in blogging.

You see, this time of year I go inward – reflect, spend time reading books like this and this, listening to Christmas music as I quietly wrap gifts and bake cookies, enjoying those around me in the present moment, and taking time to sit, think, pray and listen.

For many people this is the busiest time of the year.  And although I also have a to-do list as long as Santa’s and more than one holiday party per weekend , this season has always felt to be the opposite of busy and stressed.

This time of year is my own personal advent.

Advent: an awaiting, a beginning, an anticipated arrival. For us Christ believers, it’s an anticipation of His breaking into our world and coming into our lives – healing, uniting, mending, growing, bringing new life, love, joy and peace.  Through a relationship with Christ, I know this doesn’t just happen once a year on Christmas, it happens daily.

Moment by moment Christ breaks in and works in our lives in beautiful mysterious ways.

Knowing this, the season of Advent is exciting. It excites me because I know I will intentionally slow down, cut out my inner and outer noise, asking Christ to speak a new word, and I will create the space to listen.

I wait. I watch with anticipation. And I grow with excitement to catch a glimpse of the reality of Christ’s coming into my life – today, tomorrow and always – in new and glorious ways.
