I often get the itch to create.  Whether it be a painting, recipe, design, or party, I feel the itch until I’ve made something.  So this past weekend,  I scratched the Meringue Cookie itch.   I’ve never made meringue before, and boy is it fun.  Putting egg whites and a little cream of tartar in a heavy duty mixer (such as my own lovely red one shown below) is like magic.  You just turn on the nob, watch and wait as slimy egg turns to “stiff glossy peaks” as my recipe told me would happen.  O I do love to cook.

Cooking may be a recent art for me, but creativity is in my genes.  It goes back to day camp and always choosing craft time if there was an option.  I even dreamed of one day becoming my kindergarden art teacher.  That was in college.  Cooking, is just one of the many ways my creativity spills into what I do.

If it wasn’t Lynn, creativity might as well be my middle name.  Now, that I’m “grown-up”, relatively speaking of course, I’m a graphic designer.  I create all day long -signs, slides, website, brochures, posters, press-releases, really you name it I probably make it.  And what do I do in my free time?  I paint, create recipes, create yoga routines to teach, take photos, plan parties.  All of which I do because I have that itch – that creative drive, and because I see all the beauty in it.  Yes I may fail, and have many times.  But, a completed painting, a delicious meal, a shared party, practiced routine… they all add abundant beauty to life.  Sometimes we just need to step out of the boat and try.  Whenever I do screw up, well shrug and say “Alright, guess I should never do that again.”  Whatever it was, I learned.  Get back up modify that recipe, change the mode of communication for parties, add a little more pigment to my paint, and try again with that knowledge I gained.   Mistakes aren’t avoidable when you’re cerative.  They’re a necessary nuisance that makes the outcome of my future endeavors all that more beautiful.

What will it be next I’m itching to do?  Acrylic pumpkin paintings, bran banana muffins, who knows?  You’ll just have to stick with my narratives to find out.
