Not a week goes by where I don’t have someone ask me for health advice.

What is funny is that I don’t have any credentials behind my name that would tell you I know a lick about what is healthy.

But, I do love health! Therefore, I’ve spent much of my life learning about health. I read magazines, books, recipes and blogs from leaders in the field. I cook, exercise, garden and tryout many health tips. So I guess I do know a lot!

People pick up on this too.  They see it in how I eat, in how I live, and in how passionate I am when any subject of health.

That is why people like my good friend Nancy tell me often “Rach, you should have a blog.”

And I always respond “I do.”

To which she always says “Yea, but not about this stuff!”

Which brings me to my “Healthy Tidbits”.

From now on, I’ll post healthy things that come to mind: just stuff I live by, know to be true, or are currently in the chatter-circles of health nuts. I’ll keep ‘um short and try my best to educate.

Because I’m putting myself around health news all the time, I forget that this stuff could be novel to others – so if you know this stuff too, excuse me and wait for another non-tidbit post!

Healthy Tidbit #1

Drink A Tall Glass of Water Right After You Wake

I’m starting here because this one was new to me!  I saw recently that someone swears by drinking a big glass of water right when they wake up.

So I did a little research – why?  What’s behind it?

What I found is…

  • Research shows we all loose water while we sleep.  This is a great way to replenish the water you’ve lost.
  • Flushes out toxins the body “dealt with” while you were sleeping.
  • Jump starts your metabolism.
  • Said to aid weight-loss.
  • Great wat to start in on your 8-12 glasses of H20 a day!
  • Helps keep you “regular”.

And I’d say it helps wake you up!  This was one of my new years resolutions – to drink a tall glass of water after waking.  It couldn’t hurt right?

Thus far I find it’s a great practice!  I often feel thirsty when I wake, but I would just kinda forget about it while I mumbled toward my espresso machine. But now, it’s habit and it feels good to get that refreshment while I get my breakfast ready.

Give it a try.  See what you think. Or tell me if you think it’s bogus!
